Shoulder Pain Education

Let's Fix Your Shoulder

What Causes Shoulder Problems?

Many shoulder problems are caused by the breakdown of soft tissues in the shoulder region. Using the shoulder too much can cause the soft tissue to break down faster as people get older. Doing manual labor and playing sports may cause shoulder problems.  Another major cause of shoulder pain is bad posture.  When we "slouch" or "hunch" forward we change the mechanics of the shoulder joint as well as cause posterior shoulder muscles to stretch and distort while the anterior muscles become tight and painful.  You may notice your pectorals (chest muscles) are excessively tight, this may be due to poor posture and will lead to further shoulder problems including pain, decreased range of movement, and eventually arthritis.  Most shoulder pain is treatable without the need for surgery due to the techniques we utilize in the office.  At Big Chiro we pride ourselves on keeping patients off of the operating table and away from unnecessary surgery.
