Low Back Pain Education

"Through my years with clinical work I have seen people deal with back pain for two days and up to 40 years. To this day I cannot understand HOW or WHY they choose to have pain that long.  I believe it is a lack of knowledge about back pain, therefore I hope this article will shed some light for you so no one will need to suffer pointlessly with pain back their entire life."

Let's Fix Your Low Back

Low Back Pain.... Probably one of the more debilitating pains we can get. A lot of people out there think once you have low back pain it'll never go away. Dr. Grant disagrees and here are some reasons why.

Pain in the lower back can be a result of many different issues typically affecting the lumbar spine. There are 5 vertebrae that make the lumbar section of your spine. There are also discs between the vertebrae, ligaments around the spine, spinal cord and nerves, muscles, organs of the pelvis and abdomen, and skin covering the lumbar area.

This pain you may be experiencing is an indicator something is wrong.

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center it's estimated that 60-80% of the U.S. adult population suffers from low back pain (Low back pain, n.d.). This isn't good. Most people come across about a dozen people everyday. Fact is, half of them have back pain. They go day to day in pain and may not have the slightest idea of what to do about it.

This pain can be caused by a variety of problems with any parts of the complex, interconnected network of spinal muscles, nerves, bones, discs or tendons in the lumbar spine. Typical sources of low back pain include:

1. The large nerve roots in the low back that go to the legs may be irritated
2. The smaller nerves that supply the low back may be irritated
3. The large paired lower back muscles (erector spinae) may be strained
4. The bones, ligaments or joints may be damaged
5. An inter vertebral disc may be degenerating (Ullrich., MD, P. F., n.d.).

p.s. - always remember good posture!
